February is a perfect time to foster kindness and connection. This month is about love, friendship, and celebrating the diversity in our classrooms. Teaching kindness and inclusion at an early age helps children build empathy and understanding for others.

Use play-based activities, such as collaborative art projects, to teach empathy and sharing. Celebrate cultural expressions of love and friendship, like creating cards inspired by Valentine’s traditions in different cultures (e.g., Día del Amor y la Amistad in Latin America).

Studies to Extend this Month’s Theme: Kindness, Friendship, Valentine's Day, Black History Month

Tip: Incorporate art and storytelling to explore themes of love, friendship, and identity. Highlight Black History Month through age-appropriate learning experiences that celebrate notable figures and contributions.

Challenge: Introduce phrases from various languages to say "friend" or "love," promoting inclusivity in your classroom. Start by asking families about words or phrases related to friendship and love in their native languages.

WINGS offers creative, culturally responsive lessons that make kindness and diversity central themes for the early care and education classroom. Explore our curated lesson plans!
